Thank you all for your support over the past months. Dante has decided to take a deal and will have his sentencing date on:

Thursday, September 10th, 1225 Fallon St, Oakland, CA, Department 11, 8:30 AM.

We want to thank locally all the people that showed up through this process to support Dante in court, as well as the comrades near and wide who sent letters, money, and let others know what was happening with the case.

Please stay tuned, because we will have to raise a lot of money to pay Dante’s destitution.

Upcoming Court Dates

Friday, June 5th, 9 AM, Department 6. 1225 Fallon Street Courthouse, Oakland.

Friday, June 19th, 9 AM, Department 11. 1225 Fallon Street Courthouse, Oakland.

Just to update everyone, Dante is in the “DNS” portion of his case. Which means he goes to court and sits for long hours. Please come out and spend time with us if you are able. This seems like low-intensity, but having supporters helps pass the time!

DANTE’S INFERNO or THE TWISTED SAGA of DANTE CANO vs. PHIL TAGAMI

From FireWorks:

On February 13th, 2015, Dante Cano was arrested in front of the Rotunda Building in Downtown Oakland during a protest against police violence. He was mobbed by several OPD officers, tackled to the ground, and then hauled off to Santa Rita Jail. In a statement posted online while he was in jail, Cano wrote: “I was violently attacked for supposedly breaking a Men’s Warehouse window. I was tackled and beaten by OPD, then put in a van and taken four to five blocks away. I was then asked if a bat and a black bag was mine. I said, “Fuck no.” Police beat me once more in the van and then took me to jail.” Currently, Dante has plead “not guilty” to the charge of felony vandalism and is fighting in court to clear his name.

Dante Has Been Released! Fight Continues in Court + Benefit Event!

Dante has been released thanks to the hard work for friends, those who donated to the bail fund, and groups like the Anti-Repression Committee. The fight against his charges in Oakland will continue however, with another court date happening on Wednesday, March 25th, at the Superior Courthouse in Oakland (located by Lake Merrit) in Department 12. We ask all supporters to attend.

Also, while Dante has been bailed out, we still want to continue to raise funds to cover potential costs. We also want to stand in solidarity with the Ferguson 3, three young people who were arrested in the wake of the revolt in Oakland. This Sunday, there will be a benefit to support these rebels and send them support messages. Come attend!

Dante has been moved to another facility. Please hold off on sending letters and books until we get his current address.

Solidarity Statement from the Inside: “Keep the Struggle Alive!”

To all those still keeping the fire alive, my name is Dante Cano.

I was arrested by the pigs on Friday the 13th, at a march “Against the Police State.” It was an international call-out against militarization of the pigs and police repression towards black lives in so-called “America.”

I was also out there that night for all those killed in racist murders and the killing of a woman that was shot by the Emeryville police outside of Home Depot.

I was violently attacked for supposedly breaking a Men’s Warehouse window. I was tackled and beaten by OPD, then put in a van and taken four to five blocks away. I was then asked if a bat and a black bag was mind. I said, “Fuck no.” Police beat me once more in the van and then took me to jail.

I’m facing a felony vandalism charge and another for failing to disperse.

I have been here in Santa Rita for 28 days, as of March 12th, in medium maximum security. I am going to court on Wednesday the 11th.

I am an anarchist facing repression by the State.

It is hard dealing with the racial conditions in prison as well as the racist comments made by other white inmates. I have almost got into a fight several times. And if I do, I will be jumped by other inmates and moved to another unit segregated from others in the jail. Most likely I will get into another fight and get jumped, but ‘fuck-em.’

I mostly have been reading and making spreads with the money on my books and sleeping by myself.

I want to show my love and support to my house collective called, ‘LA IDEA,’ and the (ARC), Anti-Repression Committee.

There should be a fundraiser soon for me. I hope friends and comrades can go. The money will go back to the ARC.

Please write me. It takes 10 days for me to get any mail. I will update if I get moved to another unit. Future information will be posted on freedante.noblogs.org.

Keep the struggle alive!

Free Dante Cano! The State is the Real Enemy!

On Wednesday, March 11th, the District Attorney’s office pushed in court for Dante Cano to be hit with a felony charge for vandalism. The one police officer in court claimed that after hearing a window being hit, he saw a person in black running in a sea of other people in black. Several moments later, Dante was in police custody, despite no evidence actually linking him to the crime. We are asking people to please help bail Dante out of jail, which will increase his changes of defending himself in court. We also call on everyone to continue to support the Ferguson 3, youths arrested during the first night of the rebellion in the Bay Area.

Please donate to bail out Dante at: http://www.gofundme.com/ok4ksg

“He is a danger to the community,” declared the lawyer. The lawyer representing the DA stated that the boarded up windows of which Dante is accused of attacking during a protest in February, represent all that is wrong in Oakland. People like Dante we were told, “Cause violence in peaceful protests.” People like Dante Cano, a poor working-class youth from the Bay Area, we are lead to believe, are the most dangerous element in Oakland.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

The window that is alledged that was broken, is currently owned by one of the largest devlopers in Oakland. One of the same developers which is helping to raise rents, push out long-term residents, and displace communities of color. During the time of the demonstration, police had just murdered Vuyvette Henderson in Emeryville, while police shootings occured in San Jose, Richmond, East Oakland, and police were let off in the murder of Alex Nieto in San Francisco. Dante Cano isn’t a threat to the people – he’s someone that stands up against the violence of the police and is criminalized for it.

Across the Bay Area, thousands face evictions as developers and landlords raise rents, push out the homeless and poor, and displace communities of color. Meanwhile, the police come down hard in these communities and attack demonstrations against evictions and police terror. This is why tens of thousands of people took to the streets in solidarity with the Ferguson uprising and against white supremacy and the police in the Bay Area in late 2014 and 2015.

Dante Cano is not a danger to the community – the State is.

We ask that you please donate to help bail him out. By getting Dante out of jail, you will help his chances to reduce his felony charges and allow him to fight the charges while on the outside.

Dante Cano has already been in jail for a month. We must stand behind Dante, the Ferguson 3, and all those that the State is trying to single out for collective punishment for the generalized rebellion.
